Ethoxylates are functional nonionic surfactants made by adding ethylene oxide (EO) and propylene oxide (PO) to alcohols, fatty acids, amines, and similar raw materials. The moles and ratio of EO and PO adjust hydrophilicity, hydrophobicity, and solubility for cleaners, textiles, coatings, metalworking, and cosmetics.
They are also key intermediates for polyurethane, polyester, epoxy resins, and polycarboxylate superplasticizers.
